The
Women's Building
is the only
place in San
Francisco that
offers both
the physical
and emotional
space for women,
regardless of
age, sexuality,
race, or class,
to build their
own community.
The Community
Resource Room
embodies this
commitment and
provides women
with comprehensive
access to information,
resources, and
services that
can help them
achieve their
goals.
Through focus groups
in which we gathered information and input from the community users
of TWB, we created a framework for a Drop-in
Childcare Center. We fleshed that framework out into a reality,
recognizing that affordable childcare services in our area are dwindling
just as fast as the number of children living in low-income homes
is rising. This issue directly affects the majority of the constituents
of TWB, and therefore is a top priority in our programming and services.
Collaboration and coalition-building
is key to the survival and success of social service agencies. Due
to the lack of funds, unfulfilled staffing needs, and uphill struggle
to enact change, it is important to join together and assist peer
organizations, especially those that are just getting on their feet.
Over the years, The Women's Building has sponsored several agencies
that are thriving in the Bay Area today, including La Casa des las
Madres, LYRIC, and The Women's Foundation. Find out more about the
organizations working under the TWB umbrella,
growing their wings before taking off on their own.
