This
September, join us for an evening of making noise! Our special Fall
event, "Womens Voices," will be a celebration of
diversity in our community through performances of music, poetry,
and theater. Local artists will share their work, completed or in
progress, in a supportive, women-friendly atmosphere electrified
with the sounds of women speaking their minds, hearts, and bodies.
This
event is truly representative of The Womens Building
offering a safe space where women can come together and build coalitions
of empowerment. On September 12th, well celebrate the individual
and group forms of artistic expression that make our community so
inspiringly unique, and at the same time a site for convergence.

The
event will kick off with food and drink from local restaurants and
suppliers at 6:00pm to loosen up our tongues. The performers will
take the stage around 7:30pm in the Auditorium, introduced by the
provocative and talented Marga Gomez. Marga moved to San Francisco
in the 1980s and spent three years performing with the feminist
theater collective, Lilith. Shes also worked with the Tony
Award-winning San Francisco Mime Troupe and was one of the original
members of Culture Clash. She can also be seen performing in Eve
Enslers The Vagina Monologues this summer at San Franciscos
Alcazar Theatre from June 26 to July 8. Were sure shell
set a lively tone to the evening!
And
to release the performer in each of us, well hit the dance
floor until 10:00pm to the world beat rhythms of a locally renowned
DJ. The entire event takes place within the vibrant, painted walls
of The Womens Building, where we welcome women to speak their
minds every day.
We are strongly committed to representing all corners of our community
all races, cultures, religions, sexual orientations
through this night of art and celebration. Please let us know if
you would like to get involved. As an individual, you can volunteer,
submit your work to the jury for a chance to perform, partially
sponsor, or simply attend (tickets go on sale in August). Corporate
sponsorships are also welcome!
