Wings
Learning Center was
created to address the academic and social needs of children with
Autism Spectrum
Disorder.
At Wings, students work in an individualized, small group setting
where the curriculum provides opportunities for each child to be
challenged and to excel. Teachers use language-based
and multi-sensory
teaching methods to make learning accessible for every child.
Our goal is to transition
each student to an appropriate public or private school classroom
with skills and strategies to be a successful and independent learner.
Our teaching philosophy is based on the following concepts:
- Respect
each child as a whole and unique individual and as an active participant
in his/her environment.
- Challenge
each child by focusing on his/her strengths and encouraging consistent
steps towards overall development.
- Observe
and respond to the childs emotional, academic and social
development.
- Believe
in the childs ability and desire to progress up the ladder
of personal interaction and learning.
How will we accomplish this?
- Parent
Involvement.
- Partnership
with local schools to establish a classroom in the most inclusive
environment.
- Clear
and consistent communication with all members of each childs
learning team.
- A
classroom environment
that is structured, calm, organized, clean and conducive to learning
across all modalities.
