Charity
Cultural Services Center offers two programs that provide support services
to new immigrant Asian families; Families in Transition (FIT) and the
Ancient Wisdom Program.
CCSC began
the Families in Transition (FIT) program in 1993
to support vulnerable youth. Mayor Willie Brown writes, "(the)
FIT program is a model in helping over 500 youths and parents to achieve
in school and successfully adjust to a new way of life here. We owe
you...an enormous debt for your great service."
In partnership
with the Goldman Fund and the Charter Oak Foundation, CCSC offers a
service called the "Ancient Wisdom
Project". This project joins the historical knowledge of the
seniors at On-Lok and the Self -Help for the Elderly Centers with the
computer and English language skills being developed by the FIT youth.
Together,
they develop a web site to preserve Chinese American heritage and narrow
the digital divide thereby empowering all participants and increasing
the workplace viability of the FIT youth.
