CNSC IN THE NEWS

Spring 2000

CNSC has been chosen as a participating agency in the Census 2000.

CNSC presented certificates to KTSF 26. They TV station has been very generous with supplying CNSC with airtime for our Telethon. Read more about our generous donors.

CNSC enjoys working side by side with other agencies that serve immigrants: we can all learn from one another. Our most recent collaboration is with the "La Raza Information Center" and the "Southeast Asian Community Center." Together, we are consolidating our overlapping naturalization services. This past year, CNSC added a weekend citizenship program to our roster of naturalization services.

Spring 1999

Executive Director Teresa Wu put CNSC in the spotlight once more at ''Perspectives 99", the 12th annual celebration and awards dinner of Asians for Corporate and Community Action (ACCA). ACCA, a nonprofit Pacific Bell employee organization, honored Teresa with the Community Leadership Award.

Vice President Al Gore meets with CNSC

In time for our 30th Anniversary, Al Gore, on his whirlwind tour of the state, took time to visit with immigration experts from several Chinatown agencies, CNSC among them. Our Executive Director Teresa Wu found herself in the unexpected position of selecting and coordinating a panel of lawyers, advocates, and service providers to meet with the Vice President in a round table discussion and show their support as he addressed the press.

GRANT AWARDS

CNSC was recently awarded a grant from the Mayor¼s office to encourage and assist Chinatown residents with formwork for Census 2000. This will bring many new faces into the Center and help publicize CNSC services. CNSC has also been selected by the Private Industrial Council to teach welfare recipients the basics of janitorial and custodial work, leading ultimately to vocations in the hotel and office sector. This is CNSC¼s first grant for job training: we hope this is just the beginning of a CNSC tradition.

The State Department of Community Service and Development, awarded CNSC in the spring of 1999, a substantial grant for Naturalization Services Funding. CNSC acted as the lead agency in a joint effort with Southeast Asian Community Center and La Raza Information Center to provide immigration information. This was an excellent example of CNSC's increased collaboration with fellow community agencies.
