"Finding
employment remains one of the
single greatest concerns for Newcomers."
|
|
A
primary goal of CNSC is to provide technical job training to residents
of the San Francisco Bay Area. Many new immigrants are unfamiliar with
hiring practices in the U.S. They don't know where to look, how to apply,
and what to expect once they land a job. Through a grant from the Mayor's
Office of Community Development, CNSC is able to provide Job
Preparation Workshops offering newcomers information about employee
rights and hiring procedures. Jane Chan, State Employment Development
Department representative, has been working with CNSC for 17 years. She
provids bilingual job counseling and referrals. In 1998, these collaborative
efforts placed over 600 individuals into jobs.
One
major service offered by the CNSC is an extensive Job
Training and Referral Program. One of the greatest needs of newly
arrived immigrants is to find stable, well-compensated employment. We
provide job preparation workshops to offer newcomers information about
community resources, employee rights, and typical hiring procedures.
Clients work closely with a counselor to identify their job interests
and goals. If necessary, they are referred to available workshops to get
the training they need. Clients are then helped with actual job placement
with the assistance of the California Employment Development Department.
CNSC has helped over 600 clients find jobs in a variety of industries.
