Our annual fundraisers, the Autumn Charity Ball and the Spring Telethon/Radiothon Fundraising Drive provide a large portion of the funding for CNSC's valuable programs. Candidates for the Emperor and Empress titles "compete" to raise the most amount of money through the sale of raffle tickets and seats at the dinner. They are crowned in different categories based on the amount of money they raise for CNSC. It has become one of the most popular events in Chinatown. Past Emperors and Empresses include Mrs. Annie Lee, our very first Diamond Empress, and Amy Chuang and Philip Ho. Last year's Diamond pair was Merilyn Ikezawa and Basilio Chen.

In the photograph shown on at the topof the page, Phillip Chan and Annie Lee are smiling because they won the "Costume Contest" at CNSC's 1999 Charity Ball. Dressed as an Emperor and Empress out of China's imperial past, they not only looked the part, but sang the part as well, performing classic Chinese Opera for an astonished crowd. Phillip raised funds for CNSC as our Emperor in 1993. Annie is well known as the very first CNSC Diamond Empress in 1993.
Gayle K. Tang - 1994 Empress, former Board Member, and past President - and Dennis Lum, our 1995 Emperor, came dressed as royalty of India. That look of transcendent serenity comes from knowing you've raised funds for the worthiest of causes to our Community.

In
the picture below, The Americas were represented by Macy Mak,
CNSC's 1995 Empress, and Harry Gong, Emperor in 1996.
They came in full Aztec regalia -
solid gold by the look of it - to remind everyone that
fundraising can't succeed without a little "sacrifice."

CNSC entered the 21st Century with a special Telethon/Radiothon Celebration! 2000 marked the 31st Anniversary of CNSC. CNSC is able to serve the Community through the support of many friends. Viewers enjoyed music, comedy, and drama from Hong Kong ATV's talented stars. The fun event was broadcast Friday, March 10, 2000 on S.F. Chinese Radio 1400/1450 AM, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 11, 2000 on KTSF Channel 26, 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. This year, we had special prizes for donations of $100 and $500!
The Telethon and Radiothon event brings in support from all over the Bay Area. Pledges came in not just from San Francisco, but they poured in from Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties as well. CNSC appreciates the immense support from all its friends.
The event was not only a great fundraising success(we raised $61,796.00), but further spread the word about CNSC's 31-year mission of service to Newcomers. We are especially grateful for a generous donation of $17,500 from the Anna Ng Foundation (Featured in photo below with Eric Meub, left and Irene Yee Riley, right) in 1999.
