BABY CARE WORKSHOP
Once a week, an APA Health Worker conducts a bilingual workshop
for postpartum mothers at San Francisco General Hospital. Through
videos and demonstrations, the new parents are educated on breast-feeding,
proper infant care, and child rearing practices.
- HIGH
RISK CHILDREN FOLLOW-UP CLINIC
In collaboration with San Francisco General Hospital Pediatric
Department, APA staff provides medical liaison services to Asian
children. Home visitors help families schedule medical appointments,
translate for the families, participate in medical conferences
and collaborate with other medical service providers to address
the needs of the families.
- INFORMATION
AND REFERRAL
APA links clients with appropriate services in the community.
This service begins when a client calls or drops-in. APA also
refers clients to other agencies providing culturally sensitive
support to Asian families like parenting education classes, support
groups, counseling, child care, housing or employment training.
- PRENATAL
PSYCHO-SOCIAL ASSESSMENT
An APA social worker is stationed at Chinatown Public Health Center
to provide clinical assessment and case management for pregnant
Asian women to ensure the best possible outcome in the birth of
each baby. The social worker will refer at-risk families to appropriate
early intervention services.
- TRAINING
FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS
APA trains service providers in mainstream organizations about
Asian cultures and values to increase cultural awareness. Currently,
APA provides training to Child Welfare workers in the SF Department
of Human Services, to pediatric interns at San Francisco General
Hospital and to other Bay Area agencies.
