MRI NEWS: New Facilities! New Faculty!
Thanks to your helpful feedback, the MRI plans some exciting changes to our facilites, faculty and courses starting in the Fall 2003 semester!


NEW FACILITIES!


SFSU Downtown Center

Conveniently located at the Embarcadero BART and Muni streetcar station, the "DTC" is the new home to most of our courses, and many future events.

The DTC houses eight computer labs, several lecture rooms and open labs.




DTC Audio Training Lab

We are proud to announce the new ATL
on the 3rd floor of SFSU Downtown Center. Stocked with Mac G4 workstations and Digidesign mBoxes, we now offer hands-on training in the latest version of ProTools. Courses moved to the new facilities:

MRI 320, 335, 535.

DTC Open Lab
MRI students enrolled in hands-on courses can now use the DTC's Open lab. Located on the second floor of the DTC, the Open lab is stocked with Mac and PC workstations, the latest software, and internet access.


Fantasy Studios/Saul Zaentz Film Center
Making industry inroads isn't easy, so we're moving MRI 430 to this legendary facility, taught by a Grammy winning producer/engineer (see 'new faculty' section, below). Fantasy is located at the corner of Tenth and Parker in Berkeley.

New BECA Facilties
We will now hold MRI 315, part of MRI 310 and addional lab time in the newly rennovated CA 43. Additional, lab time for MRI students will be offered in CA 35 and CA 40 (our new G4 lab).

NEW FACULTY & COURSES


Grammy award winning producer/engineer, Michael Rosen lauches the new MRI 430, Advanced Audio Recording I at Legendary Fantasy Studios (see above) this fall.

Larry Batiste, songwriter and publisher of over 250 songs for major label acts inlcuding Whitney Houston and Al Jarreu, launches MRI 336, The Art and Business of Songwriting at the DTC.

Slims Nightclub co-owner, Dawn Holliday, launches MRI 329, Behind the Stage at the DTC with some visits to Slims. In her course, hstudents get to book a national touring act.

Hitman Records CEO and MRI instructor, C. Michael Brae, launches MRI 333, Independent Radio Tracking & Promotions at the DTC.

Producer/songwriter/musician John Bendich, who's worked with numerous artists, including
Jesse Colin Young and En Vogue , launches MRI 327, The Role of the Record Producer at the DTC.


Nick Krautter Management President and MRI graduate, Nick Krautter, launches MRI 331, Breaking Into the Music Industry at the DTC.l



NEW DIRECTORS


Evelyn Miller-Mack
is co-director of the MRI, primarily responsible for the administration and development of the business courses and administrative responsibilities for the program. Evelyn has worked with the MRI Program for three years and is also involved in artist management and event promotions . She serves on the board of directors of UGA (Urban Gospel Alliance ). In addition, Evelyn holds memberships with NARAS, National Association Recording Industry Professionals (NARIP), Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA), NABFEME (National Association of Black Female Executives in Music & Entertainment) and serves on the advisory board for TheGospelZone.com. She and Craig have created a great synergy and together are looking forward to making the MRI program better and stronger.


Craig Abaya
is co-director of the MRI, primarily responsible for all creative and technical courses. He is a songwriter/musician/singer/producer, holding several awards from Billboard Magazine. In addition to his work with the MRI, Craig directs and teaches in programs for SFSU's Multimedia Studies Program, including the Digital Video Intensive. He's taught a variety of subjects, throughout the bay area, from web design and programming, to film and digital audio. He is a producer/director and has organized several professional film projects for SFSU CEL students and graduates. Craig is a consulatant to Apple Computers, a professional concert photographer for various clients including Sony Music, and holds both author and publisher status with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).
