For week number three we get into the style characteristics that separate fonts from one another. How to set font selection, size, color and attributes in HTML for the World Wide Web.

In the lecture this week we will cover the classification of fonts and how to identify them.

For the hand's on demonstration we will go over what is currently available as typographic treatments using HTML.

For the homework section, you guessed it, I discuss what has to be done for the class project.

At the bottom of this page I have listed some great online tyopgraphic sources including; foundries, type designers, search engines, design shops and a few random links to just about anything having to do with type.
Here are some online typographic sources. There are several great font search engines, where you can enter classifications attributes like serif, or sans serif, old style and traditional and get visual samplings of that foundry offerings. Some of the better search engines are at:
Adobe http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/main.html
T26 http://www.t26font.com/pages/index2.html
Bitstream http://www3.digitalriver.com/bit/index.html

I have been collecting foundry catalogs for the past few years, and I have found you only really need 1 to 2 of them to identify almost any font. The catalogs I use are from "Phil's Font's" and the "Adobe Type Library". You can request a FREE catalog from Phil's Fonts online at: http://www.philsfonts.com/phils/selections/catalog.html.
