What's going on!
This our first week of class, so we will be going over alot of information; the rules, official class stuff, and the projects. Really it's not that bad, it's going to be fine. For demonstration purposes I will be showing some videotapes that contain what I think are great examples of typeography.

For this week the general class topic is the basic rules and guidelines that all designers know and use.

In the lecture section you will get my definition of what type is. What are some of its uses. And where we fit in.

In the hand's on section I go over Design Principals, and the use of Grids.

For the homework section, you guessed it, I discuss what has to be done for the alignment exercise, and the class project.

Now for the goods!
Here's what you want to see, the assignments. During this class you will be involved in 1 class project that will last all 6 weeks, and several exercises, some are in-class and some required as homework.

Excercise: Type Alignment Study
Duration of this exercise will last only 2 weeks. You will begin with the homework for this week, continue through next week and turn in final work at the beginning of week 3.

Purpose of this exercise:
Through practice and evaluation you will learn how to manipulate space with a given amount of content. You must first read and understand the content. Organize its pieces into a hierarchy of importance. Then only using a single font you will create various layouts focusing on the principles discussed in class. Use the point size of the type to create space among the individual pieces.
See handout.
