Spring 1996
What's new at the MSP?

The MSP bloomed this Spring with three new computer labs, a brand new Digital Audio and MIDI Editing Suite and software additions galore. Plus all labs are wired to the Internet, so surf away! Summer's here, and the program is heating up.

The Dedicated Open Lab in Room 7 sports PowerMac 7500s (32MB RAM) and five Pentium 133MHz (with 6 x CD-ROMs). Open 7 days a week, the Open Lab has become a second home to many. Advanced students take classes in the new, high-end computer lab (Room 6). PowerMac 7500s with 32MB RAM, Quad Speed CD-ROMs and one-gigabyte hard drives electrify the room. And if that's not enough, head on upstairs to Room 302 and check out the new PC Lab. Twelve Pentiums provide space for everyone to get on a computer and learn, learn, learn.

The Post Production Facility in Room 5 houses the new Digital Audio and MIDI Editing Suite, accessible to students in the Media 100 Digital Editing classes. Converted from an old PC room into the Post Production Facility, Room 5 is the space to create real-time, broadcast quality video as well as learn online production. This is where HTML classes are taught, our online classes are developed, and GAL:ILEO, the MSP'S Web site is maintained. To support all this are PowerMac 8500s with QuickDraw 3D accelerators.

With all the excitement surrounding the new computers, the new software can get overlooked. mTropolis is stealing some of Director's clientele with its advanced developing system that allows the user to author multimedia titles and applications. In addition, three 3D animation (and modeling) packages -- Strata Studio Pro Blitz Plus, Fractal's Poser and ElectricImage -- have been added. (All this, I might add, free of charge, thanks to the Technology Partners program.)
