Paul Vachier
Web Designer To The Stars

As part of the intern workshops in the fall semester, Paul Vachier, a Web Intern and free-lance Web designer developed the first in what has become a series of html and Web design workshops for InternActive. We spent all day one Saturday in the Power Mac lab creating our own pages. Paul walked us through the ABC's of html as he introduced us to BBEdit, WebWeaver, Dababelizer, HTML Colour Tool, Tansparency, and other authoring tools. The workshop began with basic html coding in the morning, then moved into design techniques and issues in the afternoon. Throughout the day he emphasized the ease of teaching ourselves html using any number of books or on-line resources. As someone coming to the class with minimal html background, I found a tremendous sense of encouragement along with a solid introduction to the language and good design advice from a professional who has been out and about in the field. Lucky for us, Paul is developing a second-level html intern workshop for spring semester. Keep your eyes on the Bulletin Board here for date and details.

The biggest stink around Paul, of course, is his work on Michael Jackson's site. Unfortunately, it was a short-term installation for The Great White One's thwarted HBO mega concert. If you missed it, you missed it. Paul also regularly works with Word, a pre-eminent Web zine, so you can catch him there. Better yet, in the next few months he plans to launch his own music zine which means, we assume, that he will be in his full unfettered glory. As a firm believer in the free-lance, late-sleeper lifestyle, Paul is taking the next step and working towards establishing his own business, which means greater involvement and control from beginning to end of each project as well as easier tax forms.

Paul is a New Jersey transplant with an anthropology background. After spending several years in LA working as a graphic designer, he migrated north a year and half ago and soon taught himself html and Web design. Paul has confirmed the rumor that he is, in fact, a Babe Of The Web, a site that is pretty well self-explanatory. Check it out. Not bad for a Jersey boy. Not bad at all.
